A good number of miles have been covered over the past few days. On Thursday, we left Asheville for Chattanooga, left Chattanooga for Rocktown, Georgia on Friday, Now we just left Rocktown for The Citadel in Fort Payne, Alabama, only to return to Rocktown tomorrow evening, then head back to Chattanooga a few days after that! The lack of order at this point doesn't really make too much sense, but at least the blog's seeing all sorts of cameo's! I now give you Chrissy in Chatty and her amazing dancing hoops!

Now from yesterday and today, including a snowy morning session at Rocktown with Joseph, Shelton and Slidell

Just realized I didn't get any 'good shots' of Shelton or Joseph, and I have a hard time posting bad shots, so the photo of Slidell will just have to represent all of them. Now, it's time for the evening festivities, then climbing tomorrow with another moothead celebrity. What's that? Who is it, you say? I guess you'll just have to wait and find out!

Here's a few from today. Ended up taking quite a few more abstract shots than normal ones. Gotta be a little creative at some point or another.

Yet another day wandering around downtown Asheville...

Back to the Bald tomorrow.

Not much climbing over the weekend, but we still managed to keep ourselves entertained once we realized we had access to mountain bikes, shovels, rakes, and an excessively large mound of dirt. I managed to rip one of the 3 pair of jeans I brought, but other than that, everyone walked away unscathed.

After a much needed lazy weekend, we kicked off the climbing week on 2 trad routes. For those of you who aren't to sure what trad (or traditional) climbing is, it's a much less invasive style where the climber doesn't clip into bolts drilled into the rock face, but instead places their own gear in the natural features of the wall, then clips their rope in to that.
The climbers 'rack' or gear consists of nuts (a) and cams (b). These are what keeps the climber from hitting the ground if they fall.

(a)

(b)

With that bit of knowledge, I now give you shots from trad monday.

Now for the randoms of the week

and just a few more that scream Kentucky...

Over the past few weeks, I've come to the conclusion that i'm just not that into sport climbing. Not yet, at least. It's not that I don't want to do it, but the many years of strict bouldering have prepared me more for hitting the ground than swinging back into the rock. I know it get's easier with time, and I have to take the falls in order to become comfortable with it, but I'm just not really all that concerned about it, so for now, you can keep your ropes, give me some boulders!!!

With that said, I've been spending the past few days paying more attention to my surroundings than the crags. Here's some of what I've gotten.

Don't worry though, just because I don't have the motivation to scurry up 100 foot faces, doesn't mean that I'm gonna stop taking shots of everyone else doing it! More photo's from classic lines at The Red, on the way.

Rain day yesterday. Not a whole lot went on, but I did manage to get this shot.

Only a week into this adventure and all my clothes already smell like a campfire. Not really a complaint, seeing as the smoke probably smells much better than I do. The creek bath's do a wonderful job of getting the stink off, but we're all just about ready to find a warmer source. $2 shower token at Miguel's, here I come!

Bedtime. Early day at Purple Valley tomorrow.

Self esteem gettin a little boosted...

Saturday, October 17, 2009

What better way to spend my last few days in Alabama, than going up to New York for work! Made some pretty easy money and got several good shot, but now I have to deal with the fact that I'm leaving Monday and I still don't have anything packed! Ah well, I'm a professional procrastinator, it's just what I do.

Now this first one has nothing to do with New York except that we drive by it on the way. It's become one of those landmarks that I get a shot of everytime I pass it. I think this was one of my better ones...

Now, back to Manhattan...

And of course, some skating at the Brooklyn Banks.

Then it's back to Jersey to get the truck and start the journey home at around 2:00 am. Not a bad last job with the moving company, that's for sure!

So long work!!!
